How to send an e-invoice via Peppol
Sending a structured invoice via Peppol is a matter of a few clicks if you meet two conditions and the customer is in the network. We walk through the whole procedure and what happens after sending.
Updated: September 2026
What you need before the first sending
To be able to send via Peppol, two things must be in place:
- Your own Peppol ID, i.e. being registered in the network as a participant. You obtain it by choosing a certified provider on the Financial Administration portal (more in the article on Peppol ID).
- Verification of the right to send via the so-called verification data (Verifikačný údaj), a signed confirmation from the Financial Administration that you may issue documents for the given DIČ (tax ID). It sounds complicated, but in practice it is handled automatically: it is created when you choose a provider on the FS portal and we take it over ourselves, you do not have to prove anything. Without it, sending is deliberately blocked (protection against fictitious invoices).
To receive invoices you need a record in the central SMP, which the provider chosen on the Financial Administration portal sets up for you (precisely using the verification data from that selection). For each DIČ only one provider can hold receiving; sending, on the other hand, is allowed through several providers at the same time (FS FAQ on eFaktúra, examples 36 and 73). So if you receive with another provider and want to use Verteco only for sending, it is enough to select Verteco on the FS portal, which gives us the verification data; we do not overwrite your provider’s record by doing so. Receiving with the Data archive is part of the service for €2 per month per IČO (company registration number); without the archive it is free (up to 1,000 invoices a month).
Step by step
- Check the customer. An e-invoice can be delivered only to a company that is in the Peppol network. You can check its IČ DPH (VAT ID) for free in our check tool. If it is not in the network, nobody can deliver a document to it yet; what to do then is described in the article the customer is not in the Peppol network.
- Create the invoice. In the portal you fill in the customer (its IČ DPH is enough), the items, the VAT rates and the payment details. The system builds a structured document in the Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 standard from it. You can also issue the invoice programmatically via the SAPI-SK REST interface or via an e-shop plugin.
- Send. The Access Point finds the customer’s provider in the network directory (SML → SMP) and delivers the document to it. All of this happens within seconds.
What happens after sending
It does not end with sending. The network gives you proof of delivery and also handles the tax side:
- Delivery receipt (MLS). The customer’s provider confirms receipt with a Message Level Status message. In the portal you therefore see for every invoice whether and when it was delivered, and you can download the receipt as proof.
- Tax report (TDD). For the sent invoice a Slovak Tax Data Document for the Financial Administration is prepared. It is filed automatically and the Financial Administration confirms its receipt with a delivery receipt; you see the status of the report next to every document. You do nothing extra. How it works is described in the article on reporting data to the FS.
Common obstacles
The most common “it cannot be sent” has one of these causes: the customer is not in the Peppol network, the verification data has not been provided, or the invoice is formally invalid (wrong VAT breakdown, wrong Peppol ID). An overview with solutions is in the article the most common e-invoicing errors.
Try it
The account is free and registration takes a few minutes. Sending is activated after you select Verteco on the Financial Administration portal (eID or PFS login details), which gives us the verification data; we register receiving in the central SMP unless another provider already holds it (in that case its migration code is enough). The service costs from €2 per month per IČO that sends or has the Data archive switched on (by default for new companies; 1,000 invoices a month included, sent and received together), and until 31 December 2026 the whole operation is free. After that invoices go out in a few clicks, or fully automatically via the API and e-shop integrations.
